It’s a sad day in the world of pre-packed sandwiches.  After 25 years, today we closed the doors on our sandwich production room for the last time.  This is due to rising ingredient costs and fierce competition from national catering companies offering lean pricing, in what is now a very cut-throat market.

We first started making sandwiches to supply our wholesale customers in the early nineties.  Back then we were only making around 100 a week.  Over time, this grew to reach the thousands but has steadily declined in recent years.

We have kept on all our sandwich making team.  Today they are learning how to make cakes and Danish Pastries instead (as well as adjusting to not working in a chilled room!).  We will still be offering freshly made sandwiches in our shops, where we use a variety of local fillings and our artisan bread.  However, unfortunately you will no longer be able to pick up a packaged sandwich of ours in your local shop or university campus.

We’ve had some lovely comments about our award-winning sandwiches over the last quarter of a century.  To all our loyal, regular customers and die-hard fans of The Big Smoke, we hope you manage to find a suitable alternative.

Thank you all for your support.
