Temperatures hitting record highs outside are as good a siginal as any for bakers to start turning their thoughts to fondant snowmen and Santa-themed
treats. But Christmas need not be confined to confectionary. North Somerset craft bakery Pullins Bakers, which has three shops and a wholesale base that covers universities, hospitals, retail
outlets and farm shops accross the South West , has plans for speciality Christmas sandwiches and a range of Christmas breads currently in development.
"We will produce the classic turkey, bacon, stuffing and cranberry sauce sandwich as well as interesting vegetarain options using locally sourced ingredients. For example - a Windyridge sage & onion
cheddar with cranberry sauce and mixed leaves," says marketing executive Tristan Hunt.
Family-run bakery, Pullins, scooped gold and silver awards in the annual Taste of the West regional food competition.
The Somerest based company founded in 1925 and today is run by the fourth generation of the Pullin family.
The company competed against 160 others in its category to win gold for its Green Olive and Sunflower seed loaf and silver for its Stilton, Red Onion and Rosemary plait. It is the third year in a row
that Pullins have won an award at the competiton.
Angela Pullin, sales and marketing director, said: "The awards are extremely well respected in the industry with buyers accross all sectors recognising them as representing the finest food ad drink
in the region, so needless to say, it's a great compliment."

Awards section of the site.
One of the oldest family bakers in North Somerset is heading for London in search of a prestigious award.
Pullins, founded in 1925, has seen off hundreds of other bakeries from accross the uk to become a finalist in a national bakig industry competition.
The craft business award, sponsered by Rank Hovis, looks for forward thinking businesses which demonstrate innovation and business accumen.
Pullins has won a place in the final with two other bakeries, and will send a team to London's Grosvenor House Hotel, on Monday to hear in fron of a 900-strong audience if they have won the
competition trophy and £500 prize.
Sales and marketing director Angela Pullin said: "It is a great honor to be chosen for this title. Craft Business 2005 is a prestigious award and everyone at Pullins is very excited.
It reflects on the whole team, so it's a real boost to see all our efforts over the past year recognised and rewarded."
Things often happen at the bakery that we'd like to tell everyone about so we've set up this section of the site
to do just that.

Farm Assured Ham
All ham used in our sandwiches is now Farm Assured English Gammon Ham from Dingly Dell, a family owned farm in Suffolk.
Dingly Dell is an approved member of the Freedom Food Scheme that has been set up by the RSPCA. This is the only UK farm assurance scheme dedicated to improving farm animal welfare.
The pigs at Dingly Dell are given plenty of straw to lie on and are free to roam outside all year round, ensuring they live a happy, stress-free life.
For more information on the scheme visit the website here.

A Healthier Range
Hydrogenated fats, also known as HVO (hydrogenated vegetable oils) are nasty things that can raise cholesterol and are therefore pretty
unhealthy. We have just removed hydrogenated fats from almost all our product lines.
HVO can no longer be found in our breads or sandwiches. Flapjacks, shortbreads and other cake bars have also had these fats removed during production,
although due to the long shelf life of these products they might not be be on shop shelves "HVO free" until around christmas.
Scones are also now free from Hydrogenated fats, as are muffins
(except caramel fudge at the moment), Easter biscuits and our mince pies that come out nearer the festive period. Danish and Doughnuts will also have hydrogenated fats removed during October.
This means that by October only two items in our entire range will still contain traces of these fats (Tiffin & Caramel Fudge Muffin, which we're working on!).

Best Breads in the West!
We've won two more awards for our speciality breads in this year's Taste of the West competition. Our delicious Green Olive & Sunflower
Seed loaf picked up a gold and our Stilton, Red Onion & Rosemary Plait won a silver. Only five other competitors achieved a gold award putting Pullins amongst the top four percent! Products
were assessed on their appearance, texture, aroma, taste and packaging and were judged by an ex regional buyer for supermarket chain Sainsbury's.
This is the third year in a row that
we have won Taste of the West awards, and thanks to the two most recent additions we can now boast a speciality bread range almost entirely made up of award winning loaves. Pictures of both
the breads are available for you to look at in the gallery of the
bread section of this site.
Why not pop down and see us at Bristol Farmers market on Wednesday's to try these winners and see what else the region has to offer.
