flOur Manifesto

We've been around for over 85 years, but our company values haven't really changed that much. Read on and you'll see what we mean...

Take a hands on approach...

Every one of our products is still hand crafted, from the spreading of jam to the piping of chocolate.  This might take a little longer but we believe you get a much better product for it.  Feedback from food lovers across the land and a host of product awards tells us we're on to something.

Be Miles Better...

We've always believed in buying locally sourced ingredients wherever possible, long before the idea of 'food miles' was invented.  Today we have a great working relationship with a number of local suppliers.  Our Cheddar comes from a family-run dairy farm only six miles away, we buy our flour from the award-winning Shipton Mill up the road and our sandwiches are made with local chutneys and farm assured ham.

Keep it in the family...

Stories and trade secrets passed on by our ancestors provide a wealth of artisan know-how. With four generations and five family members still at the bakery, we have a combined total of over 100 years baking experience and just as many family recipes.

Always use your loaf...

A pet hate of ours is food waste.  Back in the 1930s we used to feed our pigs any left over bread from the day.  Today we have a much better solution, donating all our surplus bread, cakes and buns to a fantastic charity called Fareshare who distribute it among the homeless and disadvantaged members of our local community.  Last year we donated 12.2 tonnes of food to the organisation, which would have created 55 tonnes of CO2 if we'd just thrown it away!  So it's good for our carbon footprint and the environment too.  It pays to always use your loaf.
